CALI CRICKET CLUB VS BOGOTA SPORTS CLUB JUNE 4 AND 5 2011

The first match against Bogota in 9 years! Here are the results:

Saturday, 4th June.
Andy Wright going for his 51 runs

A fine afternoon for the 20/20 match. Cali Captain, Dennis, won the toss and elected Bogota to bat first. They took all 20 overs and scored 184 runs. Wright scored 51 runs and Hipperson 40 runs. Wright's power batting was highly entertaining. He scored 5 fours and 5 sixes which earned him the Man of the Match award.

Bogota needed only 16 overs to dismiss Cali's Batsmen. Having arrived with only ten men, Bogota trawled the youth hostels and came up with a wicked bowler - Arron - who took 5 wickets! John Josephat was our top scorer with 44 runs, Andy Jarvis 32 runs and Tony Williams 16 runs. We lost seven wickets for 4 runs! A disastrous collapse. Total score of 105 all out. Bogota won by 79 runs.

Sunday, 5th June.

This was the important cup competition match, 30 overs each side. Dennis again won the toss and put Bogota into bat under a hot sun. We were ready for them! With tighter fielding and bowling, we had them all out for 132 runs. Bogota top scorers were Farringdon 39, Wright 34 and Raikes 21. Rotation of our bowlers never allowed the batsmen to settle. Jaqath outshone himself taking 6 wickets.

Tony Carter being carried of the pitch with jubilation becasue of his fine batting!
After a welcome lunch break, Tony Williams and John Jesophat opened the batting. With Tony out L.B.W., in came Tony Carter. This partnership with John produced two fine innings, quickly overtaking Bogota's total. A resounding win by nine wickets. A flurry of fours and sixes in the last over gained Tony Carter the Man of the Match award.

I am sure all would agree that John Jesophat proved an inspiration to us all with his fine batting, bowling and fielding over the two days.

HE. John Dew with David Muirhead

The closing ceremony, which was in the presence of HE British Ambassador to Colombia John Dew was very well attended.

Cricket cannot be everything without some genuine "attitude adjustment time"! After all it is only a game.

Saturday night dinner was held at Carlos Alberto Caicedo and Monika Holguin´s lovely "Hacienda" to some wonderful Paella, lot´s of wine and plenty of rock music!

And the followng night the dinner party was held at Douglas and Olga Lucia Laing´s wonderful house with those magnificent gardens. The delicious pool was very welcome after such a long bout in the sun!

Thank you both for providing such palatial surroundings.

The return match is programmed for November of this year. Watch out Cali because Bogota is already practicing!
